Smart Phones are not a new concept in fact the very first Smart Phone was introduced in 1992, built by IBM. The model was called Simon and in 1993 priced at $899 it featured a Mobile phone, Fax, pager, and PDA. This was the phone that paved the way for creating devices that could be taken anywhere giving more than just a mobile phone. In 1996 Nokia introduced the “Communicator” line of phones and the Nokia 9000 hit the market. In 2000 Ericsson (Now Sony Ericsson) released their first touch screen smart phone the R380 the first phone to use the Symbian OS, and in 2002 Ericsson added a camera to the smart phone model P800 making it the first smart phone to have a camera bulit-in. During 2001 Microsoft's Pocket PC OS was converted into a Smart Phone. Palm and BlackBerry (RIM) also around this time (2002) built Smart phones that became the most popular smart phones on the market. In 2007 Nokia introduced the N95 which had all the features you would find on a smart phone today, and became the most sort over mobile device at the time. It wasn't until 2007 when Apple brought out the Iphone that we started to see Smart Phones in every home and office. Company's like Nokia & HTC still have a huge part of the market but Apple's branding and marketing could not take it from number 1 as of 2011. | |||
