By now may people have heard of Google’s Fi (Formerly Project Fi) a MVNO that Google has touted as a money saving service. Firstly let’s be clear at what Google Fi is, it is a MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) that is Google doesn’t own the cell towers or any of the infrastructure that is required to call it a provider. So it puts t Google Fi alongside Tracfone, Boost , Walmart mobile and others.
Is Google Fi really value for money?
Let’s look at it for what it is, firstly saying that it has access to Wifi is not a value add, because Wifi is free everywhere.
It uses terrible networks.
It uses the worst of the worst networks in the country that being Sprint and T-Mobile, both these providers have terrible coverage, the only networks that truly cover the US are AT&T and Verizon, anything else is a complete waste of time.
It is not cheaper
From a data point of view it is a complete rip off, $10 a GB is a complete joke, Tracfone has had $10GB for years. They are offering nothing new, nothing that is going to change the way we think about cell phone plans. $20 for unlimited calls has been around forever, and the thing is people are not making phone calls these days like they were 15 years ago. Most people are using data for social networking and gossip.
Google is Google
Think about it this way it is Google, do you really want another service by this company in your hands, things are becoming very black and white when it comes to companies that control our lives. Amazon and Google we are completely controlled by the services that are offered by these companies and even if the service that was offered by Google was actually free they would be making so much money from our personal information.
Final word
Run for the hills, and don’t ever look back.
