Microsoft takes a last ditch attempt at smart phones

Microsoft has taken a last ditch attempt at having a place in the smart phone market this time with Windows Phone 7 basically a mask over its failed Windows Mobile OS. Microsoft has taken to trying to win customers over by synchronizing the phone with online services including xbox live services. To date Microsoft has fail to grab enough users of mobile operating systems to stay commited, with customers moving to easier to use devices such as Nokia's Symbian OS, Apples iPhone OS & the revolutionary Android OS. The Symbian OS from Nokia has lost ground in the last few years as well dues to the shift globally to the Iphone and Android platform. Needless to say the new Windows Phone 7 OS has a spate of new features, putting a little strain on it's competitors.

Some of the features included from minimum specs for phone manufacturers :

LG Optimus 7 phone Windows Phone OS 7 Ready, which also records video at 720P HD

  • Resolution 800 x 480 (WVGA) touchscreen, later will introduce 480 x 320 (HVGA) screens
  • 5 OS specific hardware buttons are required: Start, back, search (Bing default), camera button, and power.
  • Applications are not allowed to overwrite these button functions, otherwise risk of being rejected from Microsoft on-line marketplace.
  • Multi touch support minimum of 4 contact points.
  • A Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU with DirectX 9 graphics support. (Support for other chip later)
  • 256MB+ of RAM
  • 8GB of internal Flash storage or more
  • No SD card support.
  • WiFi
  • AGPS
  • Accelerometer
  • FM radio
  • 5 megapixel camera or better with flash
