Straight Talk LG290C Cell phone review

One mistake in the phone’s configuration is that two shortcuts lead to the same place, the new message page. These are the left button labeled “text” and the up arrow navigation key. There doesn’t seem to be a way to customize the shortcuts to correct this redundancy.
But my real irritation with having this phone is not with the physical phone but with ironically named company, Straight Talk. The Terms and Conditions of Service (TOS) http://www.straighttalk.com/controller.block?__blockname=straight.stat ic.terms

says,
“SERVICE END DATE: Your “Service End Date” is the last day of your Service period. When you add Services, your Service End Date will be extended by the number of Service Days purchased.”
But actually when the customer purchases time (“add Services” using ST’s term), the customer loses all the remaining days they have. In other words, The Service End Date is extended by the number of Service Days purchased *MINUS the days remaining in the plan*.
The TOS contradicts ...

so couldn't you just add the new card on the last day of your current month? wouldn't that solve the problem?, or maybe you hadn't thought of that.

I'm guessing with the $30 & $45 dollar plans, there are no promo codes to get it even cheaper?

I haven't heard of any promo codes. That's a fair price, assuming you don't get stuck by the trap of paying early.
Why do you assume a promo code? most phone plans don't have any. Which company did you use that had such a code, and what was it, that is how much off was it?

I am trying to add time on my fathers phone and im nopt to sure how im going to do that. He dont remermber his pin code. he gave me his credit card number and the serial number can you tell me what i need to do to get his $45.00 on his phone if you can email me and let me i would be very thankful. Can't you just buy a new card and use that code? There should be a serial number on the phone so it can be properly applied.

I don't know. And I shouldn't have to wonder. You should be able to pay when ever you want to pay and not worry about the phone being cut off or losing some days. It's a stupid and greedy system. Lots of people have paid for days that they didn't get.

Well, you could look at it that way. Or maybe you can look at it this way: This "system" is probably why this is the best per minute deal going if you use 500-1000 minutes a month. I mean, if you use 1000 minutes, that's 3.3 cents a minute. If anyone knows of a better deal with another company, I'd like to hear it. People renewing early and losing days, and people not using all of their 1000 minutes, help the company to keep the prices down for all of us. Besides, if you have a credit card, you can set it up to renew automatically every 30 days. No more worrying about losing days or losing service if you forget to renew.

Please help me ! My 5 year old disable my phone now i can't call or get on line. The phone says "service disable" and when i try to make a call it says " prepaid service disable" I'm not sure if she went to security and locked or worse change the code? I asked her how she did it and of corse she can't remember.

I'm thinking of buying this phone how is the ring tones ans has anyone had any problens with it

I had Boost mobile at first and thought saving an extra 5$ with straight talk would be cool. Yes you do still lose a day but just do what everyone I know who has straight talk does: wait until real late on your last day to reload your phone. Plus dont buy the memory chip unless you have a computer that takes them to down load stuff onto. its a waste of $.

I got the phone several months ago when I got tired of paying for the "Data Service Plan" with my cell phone carrier. I love the phone. I only have a couple of complaints - 1. you can not link it the Outlook on the PC to sync all your contacts and calendar 2. I can not find any way to put games on it. Other than that...I have not had any problems from it. I chose to have the $45 unlimited plan with an automatic renewal online and I never have to worry about buying another card and putting more minutes on it. The phone is durable - I have dropped it a couple of times. As for ringers...I have gone to Phonezoo.com and downloaded several ringers and I have sent myself ringers via text message - so I have a wide variety of ringtones. I have also sent myself pictures (for contact recognition and wallpaper). It is a great phone....my previous phone was a Blackberry and there are features I miss on it, but I kept it for a PDA and can still use it in many ways. The LG290C is w...

You can download ringtones/wallpapers for free from phonezoo. You then have to save them to your PC and then email them to yournumber@mypixmessages.com to send them to your phone where you can save them.

im not sure if anyone answered your question about ringtones on straighttalk but what i do is go to myxer.com (free) and download the ringtone to my pc. then i email the ringtone to my phone and it receives it as a picture message. then you save sound from the picture message. if youre not sure what to send the email to, send a text to your email address and then you'll have your phone's email address.

Hi-I had the exact same problem. Not once but twice This is the second phone that Straight-talk has had to replace for me because of this-"turning on and off" thing. They stated that I had a defective battery..I understand maybe once, but twice!!-I appreciate them replacing the phone-but I have losted valuable information on my phone-due to-It won't let me transfer info. off due to it shutting down like every 5 seconds. I asked them has anyone else had this problem and or is there any problems with this paticular phone that I should be aware of-and they simply didn't know or didn't want me to know-go figure. I have sent pictures from my phone to my email address and then just got retrieve the picture from there. This is what I have to do to get pictures off of my phone, since my phone, the LG 290c, doesn't have a removable memory chip in it.

I just got this phone, i love it but the only thing I can not get fixed for me is the "home" that is in the middle of my screen. It's bugging me, everything i put up as a screensaver only gets overlapped by this dumb text. please help.

i just bought this stupid phone because i needed to. for work and things like that. but the stupid phone doesnt have service anywhere i go. it doesnt recieve text messages. all in all the company that made this phone is not very good. im very disappointed. i spent over a 100.00 dollars and it doesnt work. i would like something done about this. thank you for nothing.

It's the Sprint's version of the 290C but should work just fine.

I just wanted to know two things.My phone will not tell me when i get voice mails.I set it up when i called voicemail to recieve notifications.I do get text,they flash on screen.also i can hardly hear the phone talking or ringing.masster volume is on 5.speaker is same its just not that loud.i do have good hearing by the way.lol
At top of main screen there is a white dot with a cross,and that has a red line through it.I dont know what that is either maybe has something to do with voicemail.thank you

I had just bought this phone from Radio Shack yesterday. Granted its not on the Straight Talk network, its through Tracfone. It only cost me $50.

They sell Straight Talk phones ONLY in WalMart. That's what it says on the WalMart and Straight Talk websites!

I've been getting the runaround from Straight Talk Reps (who have India Indian accents) since I bought the phone. Every time I do the *Number they provide, I get a recorded message that they are "unable to program" my phone, call later. I then call a representative (India accent) who keeps telling me I must wait 7 days for the thing to be programmed. After those seven days, I go through the same scenario. And so on for more consecutive 7 days. They have my money, and I don't have a phone! I just filed a complaint with the FCC against them. This has been a VERY expensive experience -- I am elderly and on a fixed income. I could have used that $100 to pay bills, buy food AND a cell phone that would be activated THE SAME DAY I PURCHASED IT!!! This company ia a rip-off.

I have had two LG290C slider phoes from straight talk that shut themselfs off either in the middle of a call or ocassionly when you close the phone. The second phone is only 20 days old but walmart won't take it back since its after 15 days. Straight talk will send me a lebel for postage and when they recive it and test it send me a new phone however the process will take 3 weeks so I have to live without a phone for 3 weeks. mIts my only phone number and I am in a job shearch and need it. The first supervissor said it is a common proble with this model however the second supervissor siad it is not. While I found the coverage too be good if you have a technical problem or a defecitive phone you are out of luck. The company should be called straight fuck.

ive had no problems out of my straight talk service. i have been on the $30 plan and my minutes/text/data rolled over every month except the last time i added money on it. ive got the lg290c in january and the only problem ive had is if i keep it in my pocket at work 3 out of 5 times it will turn itself off but that probably because i have a very physical job and probably lean against the power button long enough for it to turn the phone off.

The author said his minutes rolled over every month except the last? That doesn't sound right. Either it rolls over or it doesn't and my experience is that it doesn't.

I have this phone. I left it at my local skatepark and went back to get it the next day and it was turned off. When I turned it back on it was locked! I never lock my phone, I tried 0000 and 1234 and the last four of my number but none of them work. I'm assuming now that someone set a password on it as some stupid joke. There's got to be a way to get it unlocked, isn't there?
